About the Ecuadorian consular office in Houston

The Consulate General of Ecuador in Houston is located in the Galleria district, one of the busiest business corridors in the Texas metro. It looks after Ecuadorian nationals living across Texas — from the Houston area down through the southern half of the state — and is the closest office for several neighboring states as well. As the fourth-largest city in the U.S., Houston hosts a broad Latin American population, and Ecuadorians have carved out a visible presence in neighborhoods such as Gulfton, Spring Branch and Pasadena.

Because there are no Ecuadorian consulates in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi or Alabama, this office also acts as the reference point for Ecuadorians settled in those states.

Houston, energy capital and its Ecuadorian ties

Houston is not the U.S. city with the largest Ecuadorian population, but its community has a distinctive twist: part of it is tied to the oil and gas industry. Ecuador is a crude-producing nation, and a number of Ecuadorian energy professionals — engineers, geologists and technicians — have found work in Houston's Energy Corridor. Alongside them lives a wider Ecuadorian community around Gulfton, the neighborhood with the highest Latin American density in the city, and in southwestern suburbs such as Stafford and Sugar Land.

Getting to the consulate and parking

The office sits in the Augusta Drive building, Suite 810, in the Uptown Houston area near the Galleria. It is one of the most heavily trafficked parts of the city, well linked by Beltway 8 and I-610. Houston is built around the car, so reaching it by public transit is impractical; the easiest options are to drive or take an Uber, with paid parking available in the building and nearby.

For Ecuadorians in San Antonio (roughly 3 hours away via I-10), Corpus Christi or the Rio Grande Valley cities such as McAllen and Laredo, the Houston consulate is the nearest one. Plan the trip with plenty of time, especially if you are traveling up from south Texas.

How to book an appointment at the Houston consulate

Appointments are handled exclusively online. Open the official portal and choose "USA: Houston – Consulate General", then the service you need.

Frequently asked questions about the Ecuadorian Consulate in Houston

Does the Houston consulate serve Ecuadorians in San Antonio or McAllen?

Yes. The Houston consulate covers Ecuadorians across southern and eastern Texas, including San Antonio, Corpus Christi, McAllen, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley. North Texas — Dallas, Fort Worth and Frisco — falls instead under the Dallas consulate, which is located in Frisco.

Can I reach the consulate without a car?

Houston runs a METRO bus network, but coverage is nowhere near cities like New York or Chicago. From downtown, the route 82 (Westheimer) bus passes through the area, yet the most reliable choice is an Uber or Lyft. The exact address is 2603 Augusta Drive, Suite 810.

Can my child born in Texas obtain Ecuadorian nationality through the Houston consulate?

Children of Ecuadorian parents born in Texas hold U.S. citizenship automatically by birth on American soil (jus soli) and may also claim Ecuadorian citizenship if at least one parent is an Ecuadorian national (jus sanguinis). The Houston consulate can register the child in the Ecuadorian Civil Registry and process their Ecuadorian ID card or passport.

Can the consulate help if I need to travel to Ecuador urgently for a family emergency?

Yes. If you must travel to Ecuador at short notice and your passport has expired or is unavailable, contact the consulate and explain the emergency. In properly documented cases — the death or serious illness of a close relative — the office can arrange priority handling to issue travel documentation.
